Ultrabooks are the middle ground between thin and light tablets and full-on laptop computers. They’re pretty handy if you don’t want to lug around anything big and heavy but still need something more than a simple tablet. There are a lot of options out there but most of them are pretty pricey. That being said, you can still get a very nice ultrabook with snappy performance for just under $600. Here’s a list of the four best ultrabooks below $600 to help narrow down your choices.

This sleek, easily portable ultrabook only costs around $400. It measures 0.8 x 11.9 x 7.9 inches (2.03 x 30.23 x 20.01) and is lightweight at just 2.9 lbs (1.3 kilos). It features an HD 11.6-Inch LED touch screen. It comes with one USB 3.0 port that will allow fast connections to high capacity flash drives and other high-speed drives, as well as two additional USB 2.0 ports. It also has an Ethernet port just in case the 802.11n Wi-fi connection isn’t available, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 0.3MP webcam.

The Asus VivoBook comes stocked with 64 bit Windows 8 Home Premium. Like any compatible laptop running Windows 8, it can be updated to Windows 10 for free. It has a 1.8GHz Intel Core i3-3217U processor, 4GB DDR3 internal memory and a 500GB 5,400rpm hard drive. Its battery can last a maximum of 3 hours and 50 minutes with continuous video play.

It has two USB ports, one 3.0 and one 2.0. It runs Windows 8 out of the box, and has battery that can last for up to 3.5 hours with continuous use. At 3 lbs (1.36 kg), it’s only slightly heavier than the Asus VivoBook, but like the Vivobook, it’s incredibly slim. The Aspire V5 measures 11.38” x 8.11” x 0.83” (28.9 x 20.6 x 2.1 cm). It comes in “chill” silver, and costs around $420.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T440 features a fingerprint sensor to keep your computer secure. Inside is a 4th gen Core i3, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It’s powered by a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor, and can handle common tasks with ease. It features a crisp 14.1” HD display. At 3.8 lbs (2.08 kg) and 13.3″ x 0.82″ x 9.15″ (33.8 x 2.08 x 23.2 cm), it’s a bit heavier than the others on the list, but still quite reasonable as far as portability is concerned. The Thinkpad T440’s keyboard is backlit. It features two high speed USD 3.0 ports and another 2.0 port. The Lenovo Thinkpad T440 comes in black, and costs around $475.

Dell Inspiron 11 3000 SeriesFor an even more modestly priced option, the Dell Inspiration 11 3000 series is a great choice. It features an 11.6” HD touch screen, and is convertible between tablet and laptop form. It has an i3147-2500sLV processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB internal hard drive. It ships with Windows 8.1, and its dimensions are 0.83” x 7.93” x 11.8” (2.08 x 20.14 x 29.9 cm). It weighs 3.1 lbs (1.4 kg). It comes in silver and costs roughly $380.
