Today I will show you the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. It is budget friendly, simple design, and impressing specs for a budget friendly device. Let’s take a closer look.
The design is familiar to anyone who used or even seen a Lumia device before. The front is a perfectly flat piece of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the rear a removable plastic shell. My favorite is the matt finish white shell which is both attractive and comfortable to hold. And there are more colorful and glossy options. We find the Microsoft logo on the back and a 13 MP Carl Zeiss camera, LED flash and a small pill shaped speaker hole. The edges around are almost entirely flat, except for the small raised hump whether 3.5 mm jack on the top edge. I’ve been impressed by both placement and click ability of theMicrosoft Lumia 640 XL volume and power keys.
It is 9 mm thin and it’s not the thinnest phablet in the world. It is hardly a one-handed device. It is respectively light. It is good looking and feels well made.
There are several options of the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. The LTE version and the dual-SIM version. I can’t tell it is incredibly premium feeling. I had phones that cost more and feel much cheaper than the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL and the price varies on which you will go for. In the UK sells for around 200 £.
To save on cost Microsoft decided not to go with a 1080 p display and I feel this is not the right choice. Instead we have a 5.7 inch 720 by 1280 ClearBlack LCD panel and it has pixel density of just 259 ppi. I have to say that the large display is not that much terrible.
Hardware and Software
It is loaded with the Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and 1 GB of RAM, which didn’t really struggle at all with Windows Phone 8.1. You get 8 GB of internal storage and you can expand it with the MicroSD slot with up to 128 GB. You can get the latest software features available to the public.
One thing that surprised me here was the camera. The rear camera packs in 13 MP and doesn’t just produce sharp images, but great colors. It is one of the best camera I have ever used on a phone regardless the price. The front facing camera is a 5 MP shooter.
Being a phablet the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a huge battery. It is 3000 mAh and it is removable. I didn’t struggle to get to the end of the day once. I was pushing on two days on a full charge.
I can’t tell it is incredibly premium feeling. I had phones that cost more and feel much cheaper than the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. For that kind of money it’s hard to criticize the phone. It’s an affordable and attractive device with a great camera, great battery life and solid build quality with a huge screen.
