These days, a portable charger or power bank is pretty much essential. Compared to the immense energy consuming power today’s smart phones have, their batteries are pretty meager. Many devices don’t even last a full day with regular use. If you’re a power user, a portable charger is the only answer to your smart phone’s weak battery.

Ideally, your portable charger should be compact yet have a high mAh capacity. Price may also be of concern, so consider getting something you can afford that is either pocketable or can easily fit into a purse. If you have to share it with other people whose phone has a different kind of charger than you, then you should choose something with both types of connectivity.

Check out this list of the top five portable chargers on the market right now.

Apple vs AndroidAndroid vs. iOS, iOS vs. Android. It’s a battle that seems almost as old as time itself by this point, fought on both sides by clutches of feverishly passionate fanboys with only one goal in mind: total mobile market domination. But is either one truly any “better” than the other, and if so, by how much?

In the war of mobile OS vs. mobile OS there’s many different factors that you should consider before making your final purchase, so read on in our guide to find out which overall experience is going to be right for you.

Usability

It’s hard to split hairs in this department particularly because over the years and throughout hundreds of revisions, both operating systems have borrowed many of the same tricks from one another’s toolbox.

The notification center in iOS 2.0, which started as a fleeting, jumbled mess of text that was impossible to manage soon morphed into a bastardized version of what Android users already had in 3.0 Honeycomb. Android’s widgets were a wreck, so they looked at how Apple condensed the noise on the user’s home screen and quickly followed suit.

By Android’s latest 6.0 Marshmallow rollout and the arrival of iOS 9, both platforms excel in the category of general usability. Installed on a bleeding-edge device like a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Marshmallow 6.0 makes it easy for users to acutely customize their experience for everything from the notification center to their home screen with ease, as apps open, close, and swap back and forth with lightning speed.

On the other side of the ring, we have iOS 9. While the OS doesn’t make too many revolutionary improvements to many of the aesthetic changes brought about in its predecessor, this latest version does still take the already-pleasurable operating system to an elevated level of elegance that’s unmatched in the space.

Round One: Draw

Security

Right off the bat, you should know that the iPhone takes this category across the board, and the second place finisher isn’t even close.

These days, the mere mention of Android is enough to get internet security specialists quivering in their boots. It doesn’t seem like a week goes by where we don’t hear about some new attack or root vulnerability in the operating system’s architecture that leaves millions, or even billions of users open to having their personal information hacked.

iOS on the other hand has only experienced two very minor security holes throughout its entire lifecycle, both of which needed a very specific set of steps to happen one after the other to even be effective in the first place. With iOS, Apple has somehow managed to achieve the impossible by creating a nearly 100% virus-free experience, something that not even the most popular desktop-based OS’ like Windows 10 or OSX can claim.

The Cupertino company’s stalwart dedication to keeping its users safe has become the gold-standard, in an industry that has struggled for decades to create a system that was completely and totally hacker-proof. Conversely, the ball that Google has dropped with their own offering has made the threat landscape more dangerous than ever, linking people’s photos, credit card information, and even their fingerprints up to the worst parts of the underground web.

Round Two: iOS

Notifications

Although Apple has made many much-needed and well-received updates to its notification center over the years, this is one area where the company has always lagged just a little bit further behind its Mountain View counterpart.

One of the greatest motivators for early adopters of Android was its clear and obvious superiority in the space of notifications, with the ability to customize nearly every aspect of the experience down to the nose.

Even now, while the iOS 9 Notification Center is more than well-equipped enough to handle the job it’s been tasked with, Marshmallow’s mastery of notifications is simply unmatched. The double-edged nature of iOS is the same barrier that prevents it from getting infected by just any old app is also what keeps it from being able to reach the bar that’s been set by Android’s own team of engineers working on perfecting how your phone or tablet handles its alerts.

Apps

This is a hard one to call, simply for the fact that the lion’s share of apps that are actually any good or worth a user’s time support both Apple’s iTunes App Store as well as Google Play. Sure, it could be said that the App Store gets a few extra points for its market-leading dedication to vetting any and all apps that make it onto the charts for viruses or malware, the sheer volume of apps that are available on Google Play is usually enough to shut anyone on that side of the aisle down in an instant.

Both have their benefits and drawbacks for the same reasons that make the other look worse or better. While Apple’s stringent rules and regulations for entry into their Store make it difficult for indie developers to get their apps featured, Google’s laissez-faire approach to their Wild West-esque marketplace makes it easy for any developer (nefarious or otherwise) to get their apps through the front gates.

For this reason alone, we’re going to call this round as a draw.

Round Four: Draw

Final Score: iOS 2, Android 2

Results

And with that last round in this bout between the two titans of mobile, we come to the conclusion of our OS contest: Both have their merits, and it’s all about what kind of mobile experience you think would fit your lifestyle best.

For smartphone users who prefer to have most of the hard stuff figured out for them ahead of time and a secure place to store your prized photos and contacts, iOS offers a streamlined, one-size-fits-all experience that even the most technologically challenged customer can dive into without reading a training manual first.

For the power-user who prefers to maintain absolute control over their mobile device and use it however they please as soon as it’s out of the box, Android’s endlessly customizable mix of apps and UI tweaks can satisfy any ultra-nerd’s wildest fantasy. That’s what’s great about competition, is that when it comes down to it: it’s all about what you love the most, and who gives it to you for the best possible price, right?

DxO’s new camera attachment for the iPhone or iPad, the DxO One, boasts DSLR-quality images in a super compact, easily pocketable add on. The tiny 2.65” tall cam has a sleek aluminum body, and weighs only 108 grams, but packs a 1.8/f lens with a 1-inch CMOS BSI sensor capable of capturing 20.2 megapixel images.

DxO One
See it at Amazon

The One comes with a special setting they call SuperRAW Plus that captures high-quality images in very low lighting conditions. The SuperRAW Plus functionality is particularly handy for recording those sudden, special night shots, like when a bear attacks your campsite in the middle of the night. The SuperRAW setting operates much the same HDR does on your smart phone or point-and-shoot camera. It takes four RAW images, and blends them together to get the best all around exposure.

“It’s possible to shoot crystal-clear images under moonlight, which is incredible for a camera this small. The shallow depth of field and bokeh of the lens at f/1.8 is absolutely perfect for portrait photography,” says Jerome Menire, DxO’s founder and CEO.

When hooked up, the iPhone or iPad can rotate 60 degrees in either direction. It’s capable of full 1080p video capture at 30 fps, or 720p at 120 fps. A neat bonus is that the iPhone can act as a camera stand allowing you set it down and to get in the shot.

All settings on the camera can be controlled manually on the iPhone through the accompanying iOS app. For a limited time, DxO is also offering two bonus apps with the purchase of the One, DxO FilmPack, a $129 value, and DxO OpticsPro, a $199 value. If you’re at all into using photo editing software to enhance your captures, this is a very nice addition to the package.

Check Current Price on Amazon

The aperture on the One can be adjusted from f/1.8 to f/11. Shutter speed ranges from 15s to 1/8000s, and ISO from 100 to 51200. Preset capture modes include aperture priority, speed, and a pretty good selection of scene modes. The One comes with a built-in micro SD card slot, and has its own lithium ion battery, meaning you won’t need to drain away all the juice or clog up all your storage space in your iPhone by having the One be dependent on it.

DxO has designed the One to fully integrate with your phone so you can flex on Instagram without any transferring or uploading from your device to your phone. You can also set the One to automatically upload images to your iCloud upon capture, that way your files will be instantly backed up.

So just how convenient is DxO’s new iPhone attachment? Well, it may be very compact and capable of high-quality images, but how fast you can get it attached, switched on, and ready to go? The answer is just a few seconds, as when the DxO One is plugged into the lightning jack on your iPhone, the DxO One app begins running automatically and will be all set to capture those Kodak (DxO rather) moments before they slip away. Better yet, the DxO can snap pictures without being attached to your iPhone at all, though without a viewing screen, kind of like a GoPro but NOT waterproof. Do not bring the One on your jetski.

Though the DxO One may pack a big punch in a tight bundle, it’s by no means a replacement for a DSLR camera. It’s meant to bridge the gap between a smart phone camera, and a DSLR, but not really be a replacement for either one necessarily. “…in between the two [smart phone and DSLR], there’s a need for something that offers very high quality and is incredibly compact,” commented Kirk Paulsen, Senior Vice President for Marketing at DxO. The One fills that void.

The DxO one can currently be preordered from DxO’s website (www.dxo.com) and is expected begin shipping later this month.

The One is not so cheap, but for convenience and quality in such a small, pocket-sized device, the DxO One looks like a pretty nifty gadget indeed.

The Apple iPhone 6 is a hit on the market. Let’s see why this phone is so special that over 10,000,000 people bought the new iPhone.

Design

The new iPhone is bigger, thinner and overall more attractive iPhone than the previous iPhones came before. The iPhone 6 has grown considerably over the iPhone 5S.
The new phone features 4.7 inches display and it is just 6.9 mm thin. It’s much bigger than the iPhone 5S. The resolution has bumped up to 1334×750 which is finally above 720 P. Apple decided to give it a new name called the Retina HD Display and it is the best Apple iPhone display I have seen yet. Better contrast, better color accuracy.
The back of the iPhone 6 is redesigned entirely. It is fully made out of aluminum. It makes it look great and it feels even better in the hands.
Now the protruding camera is very questionable. I’m not really afraid of scratching but it is irritating when the phone is on a flat surface. Another redesigned feature includes the lock switch which from the top right corner to the right side. The volume buttons have been made thinner and longer for more ease of use and the speaker has been redesigned to look a little more industrial. In the heart of those changes is still the iPhone we know today.

Apple iPhone 6 - The best phone to buy

Apple iPhone 6 Phone

Hardware

The internals have been reworked as well. The iPhone 6 comes equipped with 1.4 GHz dual-core A8 processor alongside with the M8 co-processor and 1 GB of RAM. The battery has been pumped up slightly to 1810 mAh and the internal storage has been set from 16 GB to 128 GB models. We still find the touch ID at the same spot of the iPhone.

Apple iPhone 6 Hardware

Camera

Also the same 8 MP camera, the same structure as the iPhone 5S camera, same number of elements and the lens, same aperture rating. The iPhone 6 has really freaking fast autofocus. I’m fairly impressed how the iPhone 6 takes the autofocus. Other improvements to the image quality come from the software like exposure manual control for example. Speaking of video the iPhone 6 is not have you 4K HD video recording mode. It’s the same 1080P. Slow-motion has been given a new framerate up to 240 FPS which can make with some interesting videos.

Apple iPhone 6 Camera

Software

The iPhone 6 is running iOS 8. The performance of the iPhone 6 is not a lot faster than the iPhone 5S. The benchmark score shows that the iPhones 6 is slightly faster than the iPhone 5S, but that is really expected. I really could not point out the difference between the two. To me applications open around the same time, multitasking is just as fast as the 5S, everything is just about the same. If you are looking for a major upgrade you really won’t find it in the iPhone 6.

Apple iPhone 6 Software

Battery life

The last part of this review will be about battery life. The question is, has Apple finally made an iPhone that will last you a whole day. We know the iPhone 6+ has fantastic battery life but the iPhone 6 on the other hand well is not that bad actually it’s better than the iPhone 5S. In my usage I’ve been seeing from 4 and a half to 5 and a half hours of usage time, sometimes more, sometimes less with about 10 hours of standby and you’ll get through the whole day with 20% of battery life left.

Increase battery life iphone6

So yes, the iPhone 6 is the best iPhone you can after the iPhone 6+ today, you won’t be disappointed with it. But if you are looking to switch from Android to iOS you won’t be impressed either. The iPhone is becoming a very interesting device to me because I am some of the Apple fan boy.

This is one of the first gamepad controllers for iPhone 5/5S and iPod touch 5th generation. It let’s play most of the games and turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a game station. Let’s take a look at the review now.

Design

The Powershell is much from the other pads on the market. It is designed to encompass your device like a case. It’s very slim and quite light and it gives you easy access to the hardware controls. It even has a cut up for the rear facing camera on your iPhone.
You can charge the Logitech Powershell with a micro USB cable.
The control layout is the basic setup.
On the left one thumb pad and a switch that will press your iPhone’s lock button. On the right four face button named “A”,”B”,”X” and “Y”, and a pause button. And top two shoulder buttons identified as “L” and “R”.  The buttons have good spacing and I feel they feel nice and responsive. Then thumb pad is a bit less impressive. I’m afraid to say for my tastes is a bit spongy. I will say more about the D-Pad down in the review. On the bottom it has a micro USB port for recharging, on the left side is a switch that enables the battery of the Powershell and on the right side is a space where a large headphone adapter can be used.

Hardware

The Logitech Powershell is a hardware device. The Powershell connects directly to you iPhone or iPod touch by the lightning connector. The Logitech device does actually still have it on rechargeable battery on board but instead of chewing up power itself this device actually powers up your iPhone keeping you gaming for longer, which is a handy thing. This is an amazing feature because the more graphically intense games out there in particular will drain your phone’s battery faster. It’s a 1500 mAh battery so it won’t get you a full charge but is enough for a good top-up.

In-game

Let’s talk here about the mushy D-pad. The mushy D-pad in some types of games can be a bit of a killer like Pac Man for instance which really need a very crisp and highly responsive control to play probably. On the other hand in most other games I tested it feel absolutely fine. It was responsive enough to get good control in races, no real issues weaving through traffic or making turns. Some other games including the RPG and old-school console, they particularly benefit hugely from having proper control. Of course having a single thumb pad is not ideal for FPS. In Battlefield for example where the thumb pad moves you around and you still have to use the touch screen to aim but the buttons for all other actions. For me FPS game are unplayable without proper controls.

Feel

The overall feel of the control shell in hand was really very pleasant. It has a nice balance to the overall layout is very comfortable and very natural feeling with everything falling right at the thumb and finer just as it should and the subtle curves and texture of the grips on the back meant a very secure feeling.

Conclusion

So overall the Logitech Powershell is a good option for those of you wanting a basic controls, built-in backup battery and all in a package that doesn’t even stop your device from being completely pocket able while still inside the controller shell.

On September 19th 2014 Apple released the iPhone 6 and 6+ to the public. I will do a quick review of Apple’s biggest phone yet and obviously it’s best device until now.

Design

Starting off with the design. This definitely looks like an iPhone with the large top and bottom bezels as well as the home button it’s probably one of the Apples best designed iPhones yet. Although it is kind of slippery so I do recommend a case and also a screen protector. The aluminum body of this phone is definitely prone to scratches and damage and the overall thinness of this phone also makes it feel a lot more fragile. It can easily bend if you are putting it in your pocket. Without any doubt this is quite a big phone for many people but after a while you just kind of get used to it. The overall huge 5.5 inches Retina HD display with the resolution of 1920×1080 brings along a great viewing experience for things like reading, watching movies and browsing the web. It can be a great small tablet replacement. If you are still worried about the large size of this phone, Apple in a great future called “reachability”, which by double tapping the home button brings everything on the screen down to the bottom of the screen so you can access it a whole lot easier. This is definitely one of my favorite features of this phone, it makes using a phone this large a whole lot more enjoyable.

Software experience

Let’s take a look at the software experience. The phone is running iOS 8. Despite it being the most buggy release of iOS it still runs really well on this phone with only a few occasional pickups. Using this phone daily, it just screams through all the applications, with the great amount of fluidity. Now speaking up to battery life this phone can get you through a bow two days of solid and heavy usage, and sometimes a bit into the third day. So battery life is definitely not a problem on this iPhone at least for me. Unlike the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6+ get the SPECIAL landscape mode which appears on your home screen as well as in some Apple applications and some third-party applications. You also get some functional keys on your keyboard. For such a large screen phone, I would like to see Apple took advantage of the huge amount of screen real state by including some features, like the multitasking, but nonetheless I do appreciate the small tweaks Apple made to the software

Hardware

The Apple iPhone 6+ features Apple’s A8 chip with 64-bit architecture powered by the M8 motion processor. The connectivity is supported by 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology which brings you 3x faster Wi-Fi and faster LTE up to 150 Mbps. Two of my favorite features are the Touch ID and the camera. The Touch ID sensor is a great way to unlock your phone and it’s a whole lot easier and safer than typing in a passcode every single time you unlock your device. Meanwhile the 8-megapixel rear-facing camera features optical image stabilization. It produces amazing consistent photos and videos every single time and I’m always impressed on what this phone can do. Videos can be shot to 1080 P in 30 FPS and 60 fps or the 120 FPS and 240 FPS to 720 P. Also with the bonus optical image stabilization with this camera on the iPhone 6+ and the software cinematic video stabilization you get a very smooth and excellent looking video shot every single time. And lastly for the camera with the dual tone LED flash and software enhancements you can get some great shots in low light as well.

Apple A8 and M8 Chip

The best feature of this phone is the overall consistency of its. The 6+ offers a smooth in consistence software experience, a very consistent camera, a great range of applications and a few awesome features that work very well. The phone isn’t perfect, but it does a lot right and it’s definitely Apple’s best iPhone yet.
