I am sure that most of us have heard that the new Lumia 535 will not carry the name “nokia” in it, whether it is disappointing or not, I cannot decide. What I can say about this phone, is that is one budget model from the Microsoft corporation and one of the first smartphones carrying the name “Microsoft Lumia” in it.
But what is so special about it that I decided to write an article about this device? Shortly first I would like to say that I am a windows phone user (having the Lumia 1020), am not the biggest fan, but have to admit, that we should not underestimate the Windows Phone operating system.
This is a budget device – the Microsoft Lumia 535 comes with a price less than 120 euros for Europe (Germany price at the moment). Let’s have a short look at the phone’s specifications and see if there is anything special for its cost.
The cpu is in fact a good one, even better than my Lumia 1020’s one – quad core with frequency 1,2ghz. The Snapdragon 200 from Qualcomm is not the fastest one, but obviously a good cpu, so we should not expect super lags with the light Windows Phone.
The display has the resolution of 960×540 pixels, which is not much at all for its 5” size. The good thing here is that it is IPS-LCD, covered with the Gorilla Glass 3 and… we all know that the Lumia phones are stronger than any Samsung, iPhone or HTC out there in the market, so bear that in mind.
The ram of the device is 1gb, something normal. I couldn’t have expected 2 or 3 gigabytes, when I know that the Microsoft Lumia 535 costs less than 120 euros.
The phone has 8gb internal memory and microSD slot for up to 128gb additional memory. This extra with the microSD slot is something missing in the Galaxy S6/iPhone devices, that’s why I take this as an advantage of the Lumia 535, because in my opinion, having your memory portable is something important (the cloud is not so popular yet, neither so fast).
You may see the 5mpx camera as something disappointing, but I will say again – look at the price tag. The camera has ¼ sensor and LED flashlight, which should be enough for capturing precious moments. The front camera is 5mpx as well, which is something better than a lot other smartphones on the market.
I think it is obvious that this device is not something super special and we can’t expect extras like slow motion video capturing or 2160p video resolution. Though I would say that this device is worth it, not because I am a big microsoft fan, but because it is really worth trying out the Windows Phone OS, especially if your budget is low. The design of the Microsoft Lumia is also not bad at all and if you are looking for a similar phone with better specifications, you may want to take a look at the coming Lumia 940.
