Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge – a big disappointment

Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge were released on 1st of March this year and honestly said I wasn’t surprised from the device. Yeah obviously the Galaxy S devices were pretty successful… until now. Why? Lack of innovation is the short answer, the long one follows.

Let’s take a look at how advanced the Galaxy S3 and even S2 devices were at their time. They had literally no competition when it came to technical comparison, the S3 had super fast quad core CPU and great design, which gave it big advantage and made it one of the most successful Samsung devices. Years have past, things have changed, now most of the phones that are coming this year cannot surprise us, that’s why they rely so much on software changes, while design and tech. specifications are forgotten.

Let’s take a closer look at the design of the new Galaxy S6, here I won’t comment the Edge version, just the normal S6 device.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Review

The first time I saw this phone I asked myself “what’s new?”. I could give an answer to that, but the problem was, that it was not satisfying. A lot of people would admit that the phone looks similar like the iPhone. You should admit it, too! There is no significant design change, the home button is the same for example. The sides are a little bit more round… and the device is finally, like really finally with metal surface! I think that this should has been the S4 or S5 version, but not the so long awaited Galaxy S6. I am not a hater, I see the facts as they exist. The design changes/improvements are not much, because Samsung makes the same mistake as Apple makes – they think that the design of their phone is good enough and it makes logic when you create models that have been the most sold smartphone devices on the earth, but exactly this move, thinking that something is enough, putting limits and leaving a lots of stuff the same, is what going to fail this phone.

By failing, I don’t say that it won’t be sold million times and that it won’t me successful from marketing side, Samsung has invested millions in this device and will win even more from it, not surprising, this is an effect of the success of the previous models.

Galaxy Note Edge vs. Galaxy S6 Edge

Now this is some kind of innovation, making the screens larger and a little bit curved. But the difference in both models – Note Edge and S6 Edge is again really little. I am sure that Samsung made the S6 Edge version, not to surprise the users with something new or give them a great device, Samsung made it to use the marketing and advertisement made for the Galaxy S6.

The good news

Yes there are some good news, some technical improvements to that we all say “Yes!” when we hear about them. The Galaxy S6 comes with 3GB ram, which is not something new, but came with the phone as expected. The display is QuadHD, 1440×2560 resolution, with quality better than the 95% of the models, but again, is this something really new and something we haven’t seen in a smartphone yet?

Another functionality that we expect to see from this phone is the wireless charging. Bad thing is that it is market dependent, but let’s wait and see.

The bad news

Non-removable battery, no microSD card slot! Oh my god! Is this some kind of a tendency in the android world? There are 200gb microSD cards coming out soon, but we can’t use them because Samsung said “we won’t include this in our phone”. Another thing which disappointed me as well is the price of the device. Though the price of the iPhone was a little bit higher when released, the price of the Galaxy S6 is too damn high for the device.
